Walk a South Hill Street
Begin with the full address. The Pierce County ATIP Parcel Search can turn it into a parcel number, taxpayer, situs address, and legal description. A parcel is the county's mapped unit of land. Its number stays useful when a street label, ZIP, or jurisdiction changes.
- Search the house number and one street word in ATIP. Save the parcel, situs, taxpayer, and legal description.
- Open PublicGIS, confirm the political boundary, and click parcel shapes along the street.
- Check deeds under the taxpayer, then work backward through grantors and grantees.
- Add permits, code cases, and a lawful voter-file request as separate dated clues.
- For past occupants, consult Puyallup or Tacoma suburban street pages in the historical city directory collections.
The chain is address to parcel, parcel to owner, owner to deed, and date to supporting records. Keep a source date beside each name. A street directory should state what each record proves.
Search South Hill ATIP Fields
ATIP uses one box and infers the query. Digits mean parcel, words mean taxpayer, and mixed text means address. The county suggests a house number plus one street word. A block query uses a block number ending in “00” and one street word, but it may not return every site.
| Control | Input | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Parcel, Address, or Taxpayer | Text | Six to ten digits for parcel; mixed text for address; first and last for taxpayer |
| Search | Button | Returns a result list and count |
| Start Over | Button | Clears the query |
| Export | Button | Appears on results; format is not documented as fixed |
There is no separate ZIP, date, occupancy, or document filter. Results may show Taxpayer, Address, Parcel, and Type. A parcel card can add use, value, exemptions, associated parcels, mailing address, and legal description.
Map South Hill in PublicGIS
Pierce PublicGIS adds geographic context. Search by site address, intersection, parcel, or place. Zoom until the Parcel layer is active, use Identify, then pan and click the next lot. Next and previous controls cycle through overlapping features.
Layers cover parcels, political boundaries, transport, utilities, safety, environment, and places. Measure, draw, print, and legend tools can preserve a street segment. An aerial view helps orientation but does not prove ownership or residence.
Geography tip. South Hill is unincorporated, so a Puyallup postal city does not establish Puyallup city jurisdiction.
South Hill Situs Versus Mail
Situs means the physical parcel address. The tax mailing address is where correspondence goes and may belong to an owner, agent, trust, or entity elsewhere. Pierce County's inspected sample placed the two fields in different cities. Never present mailing as a residence.
- Parcel
- A county unit of mapped land.
- Situs address
- The physical property address.
- Plat
- A recorded map dividing land into lots, blocks, roads, or easements.
- Criss-cross directory
- An address-order directory used to find a listed name from a place.
South Hill adds jurisdiction. Postal cities, ZIPs, plan limits, and municipal borders serve different jobs. Confirm the political layer before routing a request.
South Hill Records by Address
Each source answers a different part of a street question. The street directory is strongest when taxpayer, map, instrument, permit, registration, and historical evidence stay distinct.
| Record | Evidence | Access |
|---|---|---|
| ATIP | Taxpayer, situs, mailing address, parcel | Free portal |
| PublicGIS | Parcel shapes, nearby lots, boundaries | Free map |
| Recorder | Parties, instrument, date, legal description | Online from 1984; office/archive earlier |
| PALS/code | Site, permit and case clues | Search or records request |
| Voter file | Statutory registration fields | Elections request with use limits |
| Directories | Dated person, business, street entries | Library or archive |
A taxpayer may live elsewhere, a deed party may not occupy the site, and a directory can omit a household member. Agreement across dated sources is stronger than one hit.
Follow South Hill Street Deeds
Carry the taxpayer and legal description to the Pierce County Auditor index. Search the current party, inspect deeds, then follow the prior grantor or grantee. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it. Deeds, easements, covenants, maps, liens, and trustee records can connect lots along a road.
Online coverage starts in 1984. Earlier material needs the Auditor or archives. Parcel links may be incomplete, public images are redacted, and online images are not certified.
Preserve the instrument number, exact party spelling, recording date, document class, and image status. Search both spouses, trustees, estates, or business names when the index shows them. If a parcel link fails, work from the legal description and recorded party rather than assuming the chain ends. Request a certified copy from the Auditor when legal proof is needed.
Date South Hill Street Changes
Pierce County Code Enforcement covers unincorporated South Hill. Search by parcel, case number, or address. A result may show site, category, and status. It can date a property issue, but it cannot name all occupants.
Pierce PALS+ connects permits, plans, inspections, documents, and parcels. Older guidance describes parcel, permit, owner, applicant, address, and quarter-section searches, but the current controls were not fully exposed. For a missing file, use the county records request. The initial response is due within five business days, though it may give an estimate or seek clarification.
South Hill Voter Request Boundary
The Washington Voter Portal is an individual sign-in, not an open by-street search. Pierce County Elections handles public files under RCW 29A.08.710 through .740. A lawful file may contain name, address, political jurisdiction, gender, birth year, voting record, registration date, and number, but never ballot choice.
Advertising, offers, and solicitation uses are barred. Reproduction costs may apply. Do not republish this restricted civic record as a household list.
Note: A voter address confirms registration at one point, not every person living at a South Hill address.
Older South Hill Street Pages
Puyallup and Tacoma suburban directories can add past occupants. Many are name-first, so locate the surname and then check street pages. No complete official South Hill reverse run was found. Ask staff if a volume has an address-first section.
Record year, page, exact spelling, initials, address, and abbreviation key. Pair the entry with a map, legal description, deed, obituary, or census. A missing name in one volume is not proof of a move.
Save South Hill Street Evidence
A useful research packet keeps the query as well as the answer. Note the ATIP text, date, result count, and parcel selected. Save situs and mailing fields under separate labels. Add the parcel number, legal description, property type, and associated-parcel references. Record active map layers and print a legend with the street segment. These facts let another reader repeat the street directory work.
For each document, keep its instrument number, exact party names, class, recording date, and book or page. Mark whether an image was viewed online, requested from the Auditor, or found in an archive. A redacted web image is not a certified copy. If a parcel was split or merged, preserve predecessor and successor references before moving backward.
Permit notes need the case number, site, status, and access route. Voter evidence needs the request date and legal limits. Printed directory citations need title, publisher, year, page, spelling, and abbreviation key. This log prevents facts from different years or lots from becoming one supposed household.
Keep unsuccessful searches too. A blank ATIP query may reflect spelling or format, while a blank recorder result may fall before online coverage. Try the parcel and legal description before concluding that no record exists. For older deeds, record the office or archive request and any book, page, or film reference supplied by staff. A failed search is useful when its source, date, exact query, and coverage boundary are saved.
Review the packet lot by lot before describing a whole street. Associated parcels, condominium units, easements, and subdivision plats can cause several records to share one postal address or owner. One legal parcel can also contain more than one mailing unit. Preserve those differences. When names vary, quote each source rather than silently choosing one. Initials, trusts, estates, and business entities are not interchangeable with a current person.
Mark the strength of each statement. A map proves place, a deed proves a transferred interest, a permit dates proposed or finished work, and a directory gives a listing for one year. None supplies a full roster. Careful wording makes a South Hill by-street search useful for genealogy, deed review, neighborhood history, and civic research without overstating public files.
Limits of South Hill Street Lookup
A public search cannot list every person inside a home. Household members may never appear as taxpayers or deed parties. Utility customer and driver-address data are private. Washington's Address Confidentiality Program also protects eligible participants.
Keep claims narrow and dated. Old listings can outlive a move, while a trust, estate, or business may replace a person's name.
Lawful use. Use South Hill address records for legitimate personal, family, property, or civic research. Never stalk, harass, threaten, or harm anyone.
